CCL/z V1.2.1 White Paper

Another IBM Exclusive

z/OS Security

Here is the White Paper, written by IT In-Depth's Anura ['SNA'] Guruge that fills in the details to Mac Devine's CCL/z interview -- featured on the right. Ü

This is a major update to the V1R2 White Paper that was available here. This White Paper is also still available at ibm.com -- if you would rather get it from there.

V1.2.1 makes the CCL/z even more attractive. With this release the CCL/z ceases to be just a software-based replacement for the aging 37xxs. Instead it, with features such as integrated DLSw and XOT, also offers some key SNA modernization options. The CCL/z v1.2.1 is a bit less than an actual 37xx but at the same time offers a bit more

CCL/z V1R2 was released in November 2005.

V1R2.1, which is now shipping, was introduced in May 2006. This release features DLSw, 'native LAN support' and enhancements to the SNA-over-TCP/IP IP TGs.  In this, his 5th interview with us, Mac, as ever, is candid and insightful.

CPU savings with z/OS
IPSec with zIIP assist

IT In-Depth

Recently I was asked to take a look at a 3rd party end-to-end tunneling option for z/OS FTP. From what I could see it worked but I really couldn't justify promoting this scheme over z/OS IPSec -- and that was before I learned about the new zIIP assist for IPSec. I got talking to some of my IBM contacts and they kindly provided me with this great presentation by Michael Fitzpatrick. [See 'pictorial' ê] I am sold. But I am told that it is difficult to find IPSec clients for Unix, Linux, Windows that work with z/OS. IF you run into this contact ME é. I'll help you.

Online Trading Systems -
What Went Wrong?

Monday, October 9, 2006

I have to believe that many of you use online trading systems on a daily basis. Are you 100% happy with your online experience. I AM NOT. A few weeks ago I really thought I was having a heart attack given the grief I was suffering with the TD Ameritrade system. I couldn't take it any more. I switched to Fidelity.com. Wasn't exactly jumping from the frying pan into the fire but that thought has crossed my mind. I need your feedback. Maybe we could try and get these systems fixed.
