Burt Gearhart:
A Biographical Sketch

Burt is the President and founder of Applied Computer Technology (ACT). He has more than 40 years experience in software design, development and consulting. His firm's activities focus on the testing of TCP/IP and SNA compatible products.

Prior to founding ACT in 1980, Burt served as the Director of Software Development for Harris Corporation's Data Communication Division.  At Harris, he developed the industry's first SNA compatible 3270 and RJE devices.  While at Harris he realized that one of the biggest problems facing development managers was the need for high quality cost effective network testing tools. This was when he founded ACT to provide the industry with standard TCP/IP and SNA test tool products, based on the PC.

Burt received his B.S.I.E. degree in 1966 and his M.S.I.E. degree in 1968, both from the University of Iowa. He has had exposure in numerous publications and, Kevin Tolly (Data Communications Magazine) once referred to Burt as the "Folk Hero" of SNA.
